Blight is eating neighborhoods in large midwestern cities alive.
Abandoned and sometimes occupied homes and businesses are stripped of thier valuable resources such as copper wiring, piping, bathroom fixtures, boilers, and radiators.
Other resources scrapped include fire hydrants, catalytic converters stolenn from cars, traffic signs, and light pole wiring.
These contribute to deterioration and depopulation of neighborhoods, public endangerment, and risk of life and limb.
Bills to combat this problem recently failed in Michigan.
Please
-Enforce stronger sentences for scrappers.
-Create much harsher penalties for scrap yards accepting obviously illegal materials.
-Investigate and prosecute any elected or appointed official possibly benefitting from allowing scrapping to continue.
