The U.S. Government has deployed 300 American soldiers to help provide intelligence in the fight against the Iskamic terrorist sect, Boko Haram. It is no easy task even for security experts.
In exchange for getting that kind of help from the USA, the government of Cameroon should help end the persecution of journalists, three of whom are being charged before a Military Tribunal effective 12 January 2016 for reportedly failing to use journalism to provide intelligence on what could jeopardize state security.
Journalists covering the fight against Boko Haram are also facing arrests, detention, torture and threats of being charged for spying on behalf of Boko Haram.
The U.S. Government can help end this persecution and deepen respect for freedom of expression and of the press in Cameroon.
