The adoption tax credit SAVES OUR GOVERNMENT MONEY by helping children in foster care, especially older children, sibling groups, and other special needs children, become part of forever families.
The tax credit was intended to help families with modest incomes adopt these vulnerable children and give them a chance at the bright future they deserve. Instead, as a nonrefundable tax credit, it really only helps those families who don't need this financial help - another tax break for the wealthy.
These children cannot wait. Every day without a loving home is another day of feeling unwanted and unloved, another number subtracted from the statistics of their lives. These children are more than numbers, and these families are more than there pocketbooks.
Make it refundable.
