For the past decade the federal government has been financially reward and punish schools based on standardized test scores. This causes teachers to narrow their curriculum so that students are ready to answer test questions. Over time this limits our children's abilities to think analytically and critically. The United States is falling behind the rest of the civilized world in terms of reading and math proficiency!
