Help fund the City of Detroit Fire Department for new equipment.

The Detroit Fire Department has been in total disarray and is in need of help. With over 80,000 vacant buildings and up to 30 fire calls a day, the DFD is understaffed, underfunded, and in desperate need of new equipment such as new fire apparatuses, new turnout gear and other protective equipment, and repairs to existing fire structures. The City of Detroit, which has filed for bankruptcy, has proposed budget cuts which weaken the DFD even more. With 95% of the DFD budget going to the less than 950 firefighters, who make roughly $30,000 a year, there is little funding for new equipment or even repairs to existing equipment. I, and many others, would like to see the federal government step up and help one of the most dangerous places on Earth for firefighters. These brave men deserve this.
