Every 11 minutes, families' lives are changed after receiving heartbreaking news that their child has an autism spectrum disorder. Today, more that 1 million Americans are living with autism. Many of those Americans fall through the cracks of the system and receive little to no help at all. Some of this is a result of communities not having enough resources to care for those with an autism spectrum disorder. Local school districts also do not have enough skilled educators trained to handle children with autism.
Autism awareness needs to be increased among schools and communities so that autism is not misunderstood, shunned or overlooked.
