Mariam Yahya Ibrahim is going to be hanged for apostasy. She was raised a christian by her mother; but her father, who abandoned her, was muslim. The Sharia law in Sudan does not allow converts, punishable by death, even though their constitution of 2005 allows religious freedom. She is 8 months pregnant, and has a 20 month old son. She will also receive 100 lashes for marrying a christian man. She has been denied medical care. Her husband is a U.S. citizen.
"We call upon the Government of Sudan to respect the right to freedom of religion, including one's right to change one's faith or beliefs, a right which is enshrined in international human rights law as well as in Sudan's own 2005 Interim Constitution," the embassies of the U.S., U.K,, Canada and Netherlands said in a statement.
