Puerto Rico is currently experiencing one of the worst droughts in its history. Residents are allowed tap water just twice each week due to rationing. On their designated days, residents fill bathtubs and buckets to hold them over until the next water day. This standing water can lead to outbreaks of disease, an example being the 1994 outbreak of Dengue Fever during another Puerto Rican drought. Farmers and cattle ranchers also face devastation if aid is not delivered soon.
Puerto Rico is under United States protection. As citizens of the United States, Puerto Rican residents deserve aid from our government. I ask that the Obama Administration provide aid and assist the Puerto Rican government in taking care of our people.
