If we raise the minimum wage to a living wage and index it to inflation automatically (e.g. yearly increase) we will give millions of low wage workers more take home pay. They will have less need to work multiple jobs, have more time to spend with their families, and have more money to spend in our economy (which relies on consumers for over 70% of demand). The workers will also pay a bit more in taxes. Combined the direct and indirect effects of a mandatory living wage will raise living standards for families and help reduce long-term federal budget deficits.
