When it comes time for a public school to trim its budget, arts programs are usually among the first to suffer. Schools in cash-strapped school districts have eliminated their music, theater, dance, and/or theater programs. Like athletics, however, arts are an integral part of a student's educational experience. Individuals from all walks of life, from Presidents to construction workers, have reaped the benefits a rich arts education affords, including the skill to express oneself, critical thinking, and creativity.
Non-profit organizations exist, but they cannot singlehandedly turn back the tide of harsh budget cuts and administration that's more concerned with test scores and athletics facilities. Therefore, we ask the President take steps to protect arts education for America's youth.
