The FDA has not approved a new sunscreen ingredient since 1999. Currently, there are 27 protective ingredients available in sunscreens in the European Union that are not available to Americans. One of the two of the main ingredients in current U.S. FDA approved sunscreens, avobenzone, is known to degrade in sunlight and cause allergic reactions. This results in increased instances of burns and skin damage. Both avobenzone and oxybenzone, the other of the two, may be associated with hormonal disruptions.
Ask the FDA to approve all 27 of those protective ingredients, and allow Americans to have the same quality of sun protection and skin cancer prevention that is available to Europeans!
