Hundreds of thousands of Americans are at risk of losing the dialysis treatment they desperately need to survive. If the government does not change its position on a proposal to cut Medicare funding by nearly 10% before the end of August 2013, dialysis centers may be forced to close or reduce operating hours.
If the proposed Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) rule is implemented, the devastating cuts to dialysis funding will be felt throughout the kidney care community. Medicare payment already falls short of covering the cost of dialysis. If implemented, the new rule will jeopardize hundreds of thousands of patients’ access to life-sustaining care.
