Sepsis Infection places a significant burden on healthcare resources, accounting for 40% of total ICU expenditure and costing up to $16.7 billion in the United States in 2000. Sepsis Infection strikes more than 750,000 patients every year. Once Sepsis is contracted the chance of death is between 28 and 50%. That is more than prostate cancer, breast cancer, and AIDS combined. This petition is in hopes to acquire a law that requires every hospital to report all cases of the deadly blood infection known as Septic Shock. Most people have no idea most states are not required to collect or report any information regarding incidents of septic shock. My hope is if this petition is signed it might prevent some of the fatal traumatic incidents and lower health care costs.
