Pennies are all around bad for the economy. They cost 1.83 cents to make and ship, which is made worse considering the U.S. National debt is $17.5 trillion. Scrambling for exact change wastes the time of just about everyone in line and behind the counter. The buying power of the penny is next to nothing. It's no wonder they end up in coin jars, dead to the economy after failing to do their one job, facilitating the exchange of goods or service. It is time for the penny to go.
