What do Service Members do when their chain of command and the service Inspector Generals are unresponsive to issues? The current answer is: nothing.
This has helped create a permissive environment that is rife with a lack of accountability, directly facilitating the crisis of sexual assaults in the military (and many other less well publicized issues). I have personally experienced the frustration of senior, but well connected, officers interfering in actions and then sweeping the resulting chaos under the rug through intimidation and reprisal.
The system defers to senior officers regardless of facts. It can only be beneficial to allow Service Members to take the issue to court and hold leaders accountable. Currently, we cannot do that. Please help.
