Alexey Navalny, the best-known Russian opposition leader, is facing a corruption
trial in the town of Kirov. Navalny is suspected of defrauding state-owned timber
company Kirovles of about 16 million rubles (over $530,000) in 2009 when
Navalny worked as a volunteer aide to the governor of the Kirov Region.
We consider this case to be labeled as political. The main goal of Russian
authorities is to remove Alexey Navalny from the political scene. The process
could result in 10-year prison sentence and Navalny could become Prisoner of
Conscience.
The only way for Alexey Navalny to remain free is to run for Mayor of Moscow.
