In the last year, there has been many proposals to shut down 4,500 postal offices. In the next few years, Congress would like to close at least half of the 32,000 postal offices in the country.
The closing of the offices will not help the postal service; it will destroy it. Although technology is advanced and easily accessable, not every American has access to internet. People are still relying on the post office to send mail at a decent speed and price. It will be difficult to handle the mail volumes with the proposed changes as well. Not only will it be a slower system if small offices are closed, but many people will be left unemployed. Working for a postal office is a well paying job and will leave employees stranded.
