Help small businesses by demanding Congress bring The Main Street Fairness Act to the floor for a vote.

Created by E.M. on November 16, 2012

Congress has so far failed to extend sales tax collection to online retailers selling over $1 million a year annually. Allowing large online retailers to ship interstate sales without collecting sales tax perniciously impacts society as follows:

It disadvantages local businesses giving online retailers a sizable 4%- 9% competitive price advantage.

It undermines state and local governments by reducing tax revenue for schools, police, and other services. As online retailing continues its double digit growth this loss of tax revenue will grow.

Today, there are ample software solutions for collecting these sales taxes, thereby rendering the Supreme Court's 1992 ruling in Quill v. North Dakota moot.

If you really want to help small businesses like you said, this is a fine way to start!
