Please do something to help the thousands of students struggling to pay back private student loans.
My boyfriend went to college thinking that he would be making an investment in his future. Now it has become nothing but a regret and a nightmare. He has tried his best to pay back what he can. Yet he has accrued almost $50,000 in interest alone. Sallie Mae refuses to work with him. They even went as far as to tell him that he should be living with his parents instead of having a life. His total debt is almost $200,000 and they expect him to pay almost $1,800 a month.
I am begging you on the behalf of every student drowning in debt because of PRIVATE student loans to please help us. Put some restrictions on private student loan lenders or allow students to claim bankruptcy on those loans.
