Social Security Disability benefits assist people who have limited or no financial resources and who have physical limitations that prevent them from working.
The Social Security Disability system is running out of funds. A significant percentage of the applicants have obesity and related ailments (heart disease, diabetes, joint problems, back pain) that can be reversed or eliminated with weight loss. People without income clearly can't afford the tools that help with weight loss, such as trainers, gym membership, and nutritional counseling. Instead of putting people with obesity on disability, which means years of payments with no return, we should spend our resources to put the applicants in programs to help them get healthy. This will also create jobs and cut government spending.
