We the undersigned ask that Duke Energy find an alternative site for the power substation that it is planning to locate right next to Isaac Dickson Elementary School in Asheville, NC.
We have serious concerns about the location of a Duke Energy Substation next to our school. The body of research about the potential health and safety risks to young children from the electromagnetic fields produced by power substations is inconclusive and contradictory. Since some studies indicate serious, potential health problems for children exposed to the EMF of a power substation, we ask that Duke Energy err on the side of ensuring the safety of the more than one thousand children that will attend Isaac Dickson over the next decade, and find an alternate property for the substation.
