Help us trust our police again by requiring Americans to be convicted of a crime before their property can be forfeited.

Created by D.J. on October 06, 2011

President Obama,

The Bad:
Despite the Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act of 2000, an american can still be a victim of forfeiture WITHOUT EVER BEING CONVICTED OF A CRIME. Americans should be assumed innocent until proven guilty. Why are we requiring citizens to prove their innocence in order to have their property returned?

The Worse:
80% of profit from forfeitures go to increasing the budgets of the seizing agency. Why are we creating a system that rewards seizing property from Americans who have never had a chance to defend themselves to a jury of their peers?

The Worst of all:
How can we expect innocent citizens to trust law enforcement officials who can legally steal their property without ever proving them guilty of a crime?
