Helping to find a safe alternative to a " gun ban "

Hi as a responsible law abiding gun owner I am not crazy about any gun ban that punishes honest hard working law abiding citizens but I am for improving the back round checks I feel when you go to buy a firearm that when you fill out the application before you can leave the store/gun broker with a firearm you would have 24hours to get a psychiatric evaluation as part of a new back round check and that the doctors who perform this evaluation would be trained and able to ask the right questions regarding the firearm owner but also other members of family or friend that live in the home were the firearms would be kept I don’t know how many people will find this a good idea or not but if it can help to keep the youth of this nation safer it might be a good option.
