Hire more IRS auditors -- they will pay for themselves.

Created by R.S. on March 04, 2013

With a simple executive action, the President could do on his own at a net negative cost. When Ronald Reagan did across the board budget cuts, he cut IRS auditors. At that time, the average IRS auditor made a $50,000 salary and recovered an average of $1,000,000 per year in additional tax revenue. While today's numbers would be different, it is likely that we would gain about $1,000,000 per year per auditor. This would not be raising taxes on anyone, it would simply be enforcing existing law. The poor and middle class are adequately audited by employer reporting and computer checking, but the rich and corporations have many ways to cheat and the staff to do it. It's time to go after them and make them pay their fair share.
