The veterans administration has an abundance of civilians working many educational, pensions and job placement for retired veterans cases and not really understanding the military culture. Hiring prior service members allows the VA to fill badly needed leadership positions with members that really understand the veterans they service. This will also help bring down the veterans unemployment rate and may reduce the backlog of pending compensation and benefits.
