The report of the Senate Intelligence Committee that was released on December 9, 2014, clearly demonstrates that members of the American government and the CIA violated international and U.S. law by engaging in acts of torture. We cannot seriously claim to now believe that such acts were wrong if we do not take any action to hold accountable those who authorized them and those who carried them out. No one who participated in or who authorized torture should still be working at the CIA or anywhere in the American government. Also, to restore our credibility on matters of human rights and to show that we take our treaties and human rights obligations seriously, we need to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law those who carried out these practices.
