Nobel Peace Prize laureate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has fought for freedom and human rights for the people of Burma for decades. She epitomizes how one can achieve democracy and freedom for others by using non-violence. Now a member of the Burmese Parliament, something thought of as unfathomable no more than two years ago, she continues to lead the fight for a free Burma.
Because of her struggle, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2000. However, because she was under house arrest at the time, she was not able to attend the ceremony to receive her award. Because of this and for all that she has fought for, President Obama should hold a belated ceremony for the Presidential Medal of Freedom that Daw Suu was awarded.
