"The deficit" is how much money the United States overspends. If we make $2 trillion and spend $3 trillion then we have a $1 trillion deficit.
We currently overspend by approx. $1 trillion every year.
We are at a dangerous tipping point in American history and we all agree that we cannot afford to create anymore debt.
I propose that all members of congress shall be fired if there is a deficit in any given year.
This will force a bi-partisan incentive for congress to become more creative so they can keep their jobs and lower the national debt.
If any of our businesses followed the economic model that congress currently allows, we would all be out-of-business.
It's time to hold our congress responsible for once.
