While serving in Iraq, Captain Gary Mason, was told that his infantry unit-3/4 Cavalry wasn’t ready for (him) a ‘black man in the tactical operations center’, then he was twice assaulted and told by his commander, Colonel Hodne to ‘get over it that’s just how rangers communicate’.
After reporting the two assaults by a lower enlisted soldier, as well as the picture of Ving Rhames with the word ‘niggardly’ shown during Colonel Hodne’s briefing, horrific retribution and reprisal ensued. Once reported to Senator Cardin, retaliation escalated and federal crimes were committed.
This outstanding soldier and his family want accountability and protection for others suffering at the hands of such abusive leaders.
