Hold National Lotteries To Help Pay Down The National Debt

The Federal government should hold national lotteries for the purpose of paying down the national debt. Historically, lotteries have been used to generate substantial revenue. Any law prohibiting or restricting the Federal government from administering a lottery should be suspended for a period of time approved by voters. Lottery ticket buyers would have to be 18 years of age or older and reside in a state where lotteries are legal. The lottery would be run similarly to highly profitable state lotteries and have similar rules. The jackpot of these lotteries would be quite substantial, similar to joint state lotteries. Proceeds from the lottery would go first to those debts which place the greatest burden on our country. All allocations of proceeds would be publicly reported to the people.
