With an increase of questionable deaths at the hands of police officers against civilians, it is time that we as a nation update the rules of engagement for police officers on a federal level.
Our military has a series of steps they must follow to properly assess a threat and neutralize a situation before finally resorting to the last resort of opening fire on a target. They also face penalty in the event of not following these very specific rules of engagement.
The goal of this is to increase clarity in situations where officers resort to using their issued weapon for both the officer and civilians wellbeing.
I believe that if the military rules of engagement are sufficient for those operating in a warzone, than they are sufficient enough for us here at home.
Thank you.
