All military members are held accountable for their actions according to local and national laws. Additionally, since they move between states and countries, they abide by the Uniform Code of Military Justice. This is a unique set of laws for military members because of the unique nature of our work.
Lately, police have been committing more acts of violence against citizens. There seems to be no accountability. Since they are not civilian and not military, what system do we have to hold them accountable? How would a police officer who obviously committed a murder or used excessive force face a jury of his or her peers?
Holding the police to the UCMJ, or something similar will provide the citizens with a way to hold police accountable for acts of violence and corruption.
