The U.S Congress has authorized spending that requires the United States to borrow money to meet it's obligations. The 14th Amendment demands that no one question this debt.
The Republican Party broke this law in 2011, in what the S&P debt rating agency referred to as 'reckless' brinkmanship, resulting in our Nation's credit rating being reduced.
They voted to spend the money, and should be tried for treason if they again cast doubt upon our willingness to pay it.
Even Boehner said it would mean "financial disaster" for the economy if we do not to raise the debt ceiling.
'The whole idea of using debt ceiling that way or saying ‘I’ll do this horrible thing to all of us unless you give in’ just doesn't make any sense for anybody.' David Cote, chairman of Honeywell, GOP member.
