Honor Charles Albert Poland, who gave his life to save school children, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Created by J.S. on February 07, 2013

The facts as understood are:

On January 23rd, in Midland City, Alabama, Jimmy Lee Dykes boarded a school bus being driven by Charles Albert Poland. Jimmy Lee Dykes, armed with a firearm, demanded he be given two children riding on board that bus.

In an astounding act of heroism, Charles Albert Poland, blocked the aisle of his bus, allowing all but one of the children to escape. Jimmy Lee Dykes shot Poland four times, killing him for defending the children.

Charles Albert Poland should receive the highest civilian award possible for this act of heroism. An investigation should commence to establish these facts, so that he may be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
