honor civilian citizens who act with courage and personal sacrifice that others may live during murderous attacks.

A petition that the President should empanel the Senior Enlisted Advisors of the US Military as a Board of Honor to commend to Congress and the President the names of civilians who act so gallantly in the face of murderous intent. Those of us who served in the military or the police know that such actions are expected of us...that is part of our service to the nation: to stand in the line of fire and take the bullets that would kill the innocent; but it is NOT in the requirements of an elementary school teacher. When so selected, those people should be proclaimed a "Soldier of the Republic" along with the Medal of Freedom and their own surviving children accorded the privileges and honors similar to the children of military Medal of Honor recipients.
