On July 2, 1863, Colonel Strong Vincent moved his brigade to hold Little Round Top at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, without orders to do so to hold the extreme left of the United States line. Within five minutes of positioning his men, they were attacked by forces of the Confederate Army. The four regiments of Vincent's brigade fought for hours, expending all of their ammunition - but held the hill. Vincent was wounded, and died on July 7, unaware of his promotion to General. We hereby petition President Obama to award the Congressional Medal of Honor to General Strong Vincent for valiant service to his country, and that the award be given without regard to 10 USC § 3744.
