We're petitioning to have Rev. Louise Shropshire Posthumously honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. For more than 50 years, the author of, "We Shall Overcome”, which became the anthem of the Civil Rights Movement and transcended race to become the anthem of oppressed people across the globe, was thought to be “unknown” However, the true Author of this iconic freedom song was Rev. Mother Louise Shropshire, an African American advocate for civil rights and close personal friend to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In light of the evidence of authorship and proper credit being denied this great humanitarian, we at the LOVE4US Organization believe that Rev. Shropshire is more then deserving of this honor, given her great contribution to not only black history, but American history.
