More than half of the island's population voted for a change of the status quo. After the general elections of last year, Puerto Rico's govt remained divided between the two major parties. Our governor says one thing, our Commissioner says another. Both won't work together, our upper and lower chambers are grabbing all the money they can get before the next election, I can tell, I live on the island. Because of this, the referendum has been forgotten and/or dismissed from the local govt's agenda. After half a millennium as a colony, I hoped that my generation, the Millenials, could see the day that our grandparents only dreamed of: statehood. If Congress do not take action, our status issue will become / and is an empty promise for each govt to be elected and drain out our funds
