Sojourner Truth (c. 1797-1883) was an amazing woman. Her accomplishments are exemplary, and worthy of honor on the new $10 bill:
1. Born into slavery, Truth escaped to freedom with her infant daughter in 1826.
2. Was the first African American woman to win a court case against a white man, thereby regaining custody of her son (still enslaved) from his owner.
3. Passionate advocate for abolition.
4. Passionate advocate for women's rights, as expressed in her 1851 speech, "Ain't I a Woman?"
5. While working at Washington's Freedman's Hospital during the Civil War, Truth rode streetcars to help force their desegregation.
6. Fearlessly spoke out against capital punishment, and in favor of prison reform.
