Patriots' Day is a local civic holiday in Massachusetts commemorating the first battles of the Revolutionary War. As the President said, Patriots' Day is “a day that celebrates the free and fiercely independent spirit that this great American city of Boston has reflected from the earliest days of our nation." It's the culmination of a three-day weekend that includes a re-enactment of Paul Revere's ride, a traditional home game at Fenway Park, and the Boston Marathon. On April 15th, 2013, a cowardly terrorist attack left three dead and more than a hundred wounded at the marathon's finish line. We should honor the fallen and thank the first responders, but also celebrate the spirit of the holiday and the resiliency of Boston and America by making the third Monday in April a federal holiday.
