Climate change may be the most severe threat our nation has ever faced, and there is only a short window of time during which we can still act to minimize it.
We call upon the White House and President Obama to host a broad-based, bipartisan climate summit to launch a national climate action strategy as quickly as possible. Its goals should include charting a path for implementing activities known to reduce carbon emissions, including:
* dramatically reducing the use of fossil fuels,
* renovating national power and transportation infrastructure with newer, efficient technologies,
* increasing the practices of recycling, reuse, composting, and packaging reduction, and
* educating citizens about the reality of climate change and ways to avert it.
