It is estimated that over 45,000 houses have been abandoned in the city of Detroit, Michigan. Even more schools, churches, hospitals, etc. have also been left empty for years.These empty buildings could become homes for the thousands of refugees seeking safety.
By the end of April 2015 , the UN estimated 6.5 million people had been displaced in Syria, while more than +4 million refugees had fled to other countries.
In 2014 the US border was flooded with women and children from Central America, specifically Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador. These refugees sought refuge from the drug wars taking place there. Another surge of refugees from these nations is likely.
Therefore, we the undersigned urge the White House to consider this as a potential response to the global refugee crises.
