The United States has agreed to "retire" hundreds of chimpanzees previously used in experiments at a cost of $13,000/year/chimp during their "retirement" which may last for decades. As these chimps may be enduring ongoing suffering from past experiments and may pose a public health hazard, the chimps should be humanely euthanized/destroyed unless responsible parties come forward to accept full physical and financial responsibility for the chimps at no additional cost to the U.S. In addition, We the People cannot sanction providing a level of support to chimps that exceeds the human poverty line while more than 20% of our nation's children continue to live below that line.
