NIH has been at the cutting edge for innovation in health care. Without an adequate budget, US is likely to lag in this area that will eventually lead to excessive spending to fight diseases. Sequencing of human genome at a fraction of the cost relative to 10 years ago has opened up immense opportunities for the scientific community to capitalize on these developments to figure out method of treating diseases in a personalized manner. For science to progress in this area, NIH can act as a catalyst and it is imperative that the Obama administration maintain a budget of $33 billion.
