Obama said over and over again during the election that the 2% taxes would expire, and the 98% would be extended. He won the election. No one said this was a mistake.
No one disagrees with the 98%, so Republicans need to stop holding the vast majority hostage for the 2%.
If they won't budge, then let them take the credit for all the tax hikes that will come as a result.
