Various government entities require the handicapped to obtain a doctor's certification of disability in order to be dismissed from jury duty or to qualify for a particular service or benefit (i.e. a new prescription every year for recurring, necessary medical devices.)
As a polio survivor, I have a deformity, that will never go away or 'get better.' Why must I repeatedly substantiate this condition?
The State of California DMV renews my handicapped placard without question every year, however a Federal designation would eliminate the necessity of having to prove a permanent disability repeatedly and incurring unnecessary bills for doctor visits.
Perhaps the State DMV designation could be extended to satisfy all of these government entity certification requirements?
