Due to the sky rocketing deficit this country is facing, our senate and congressional leaders must come up with ways to curb spending and balance the budget. Because of these tough choices, entitlement programs such as social security and medicare often take a hit and ultimately the middle class feels the pinch that much more. Why should congressional and senate members not offer concessions of their own, such as scaling back their pension plan that would make any private sector employee embarrassed.
Federal government pensions are almost double the rate of private pensions. Why should congress continue to reward itself with our tax payer dollars when there are other programs available such as a 401k that would require them to contribute more toward their retirement like the rest of us?
