If we can't get background checks, why don't we just put a meaty tax on guns to fund important mental health initiatives

If we can't get background checks on guns, I propose levying a tax on guns to fund significant mental health initiatives to make sure those whose mental illness raises the risk of violent actions don't simply go without the treatment they need.
