Boehner and the Republicans pretend (or are delusional in believing) they have a strong bargaining position for the fiscal cliff negotiations currently ongoing. President Obama should tell Boehner and the Republicans to have a good holiday and then make a retroactive deal later. Let us all have a nice holiday season and next month when the tax rates are back to Clinton levels you can negotiate tax cuts for the poor and middle class (leaving higher rates for the 1% or 2% highest income Americans to pay their fair share). Boehner has no bargaining position of strength. Take a breather and revisit all this in the new year.
