Texas has a long, proud and rich history of contributing to the benefit of the United States of America. From Doris "Dorie" Miller, Audie Murphy, Adm. Chester Nimitz, and Raul "Roy" P. Benavidez to Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower and Lyndon B. Johnson, Texans have served honorably and sacrificed greatly for this nation. Sadly, many Texans are ignorant of our rich history in support of the United States of America. According to our own Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, Texas ranks 49th in SAT Verbal scores and 46th in SAT Math scores. We are also 36th in graduation rates.
Therefore, we petition the Obama Administration (through the Dept. of Ed.) to allow teachers in Texas (and other states) to apply for Civic Education grants for historical enrichment of teachers and students alike.
